ImageDavid Gilmour has announced the first series of live dates for this September, in support of his upcoming fourth solo album.

The guitarist has unveiled an initial brief tour that will see him visit four European countries before finishing with a three-night stint at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Gilmour was quoted recently as saying "I'm hoping to do an old man's tour, not a 200-date sort of thing", as the former Pink Floyd man scales back on the size of shows he was used to performing with his old band.

His last solo album was 2006's On an Island, and he is expected to announce more dates soon with a September release planned for the untitled LP.

Gilmour is considered as one of the greatest rock guitarists, known for his distinct sound and long guitar solos, as in Floyd classics such as Time and Comfortably Numb.

Pink Floyd released their farewell album The Endless River in November of last year, featuring previously unreleased material from The Division Bell sessions with founder member Richard Wright.
