ImageBruce Springsteen has announced details of a UK tour, including a date at the Sunderland Stadium of Light. The Boss is the third act to be confirmed as playing the home of Sunderland AFC next year, following the announcements of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay. Springsteen will be bringing his "heart-stopping, pants-dropping, house-rocking, earth-shaking, booty-quaking, Viagra-taking, love-making" E Street Band to Wearside for one special night.

The show, which will take place on Thursday 21 June, 2012, is one of only three special headline performances in the UK from Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Sunderland's Stadium of Light, Manchester's Etihad Stadium and London's Hyde Park, as part of Hard Rock Calling.

The dates will be the first in the UK since Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band headlined Hard Rock Calling in 2009 to huge acclaim from both critics and fans alike.

One of the world's most successful recording artists, Springsteen has sold more than 120 million albums worldwide and earned numerous accolades for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of the 20th Century.

SAFC's Chief Executive, Margaret Byrne said: "The announcement of the Bruce Springsteen concert is the icing on the cake of a fantastic summer of live shows at the Stadium of Light and we are hugely proud to be welcoming one of the world's biggest music acts to Sunderland.

The show will be the first time that Sunderland AFC has worked with the show's promoter Live Nation, the world's leading live entertainment organisation. Live Nation's Vice President of Promotions, Toby Leighton-Pope said: "It's great to welcome Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band back to the UK; they always put on a fantastic show."

I'm too excited.
