Aloe Blacc New UK Tour Just Announced‏ PDF Print E-mail
Written by George Shaw

ImageAfter conquering Glastonbury, and playing headline sets dates at London's Somerset House, Scala and Jazz Café, Aloe Blacc has announced details of an extensive UK headline tour, which will take place this winter. The tour, which begins at Birmingham's HMV Institute on December 3, stops off at Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Bristol and more importantly, Newcastle, before culminating with a huge show at London's Hammersmith Apollo on December 15 and concluding at Brighton's Dome on the following night.

It brings to an end a phenomenal year for the 32 year old, a year which has seen his single I Need A Dollar become a huge crossover success, drawing comparisons with the likes of Marvin Gaye and Gil Scott-Heron in the process. The track, which Blacc famously wrote following a redundancy from his then-job, during which he still gigged furiously as an MC, searching for a break, began to pick up extensive attention following its use on the HBO show, ‘How to Make It in America', before impacting across Europe and the US, almost via word-of-mouth. Its release through Epic in May eventually led to an extraordinary eight weeks in the UK Top 10, where it peaked at number 2.

Aloe Blacc began his career in 1995 as part of American hip hop duo Emanon. Alongside producer Exile they released six albums in total before Aloe signed to Stones Throw Records in 2003 and went alone. He released his debut EP in the same year. He then released his debut album, entitled Shine Through on July 11, 2006.

ImageAfter an extensive European and U.S. tour with Emanon, he began work on his second solo album. The resulting record, ‘Good Things' was originally released on Stones Throw records in the fall of 2010. In the same year, Blacc signed a recording contract with Epic Records for the UK and Ireland. His album Good Things was released there later in the year, as was his single, I Need A Dollar.

The lead single from Good Things is already nearing 400,000 sales in the UK, has picked up over 13 million Youtube hits for the official video, and was recently nominated for a Mojo Award for Best Song. With a Top 10 album, and some fantastic festival performances, under his belt, Blacc has now emerged as one of the year's most in-demand new artists, meaning these shows will be some of the hottest of the year. So get your tickets while you can.
